JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the internship is to expose qualified candidates to the Chamber of Commerce profession. The intern will be introduced to all aspects of the Chamber profession. Interns will be assigned responsibilities at the same level as an entry-level employee. This is a part time position averaging 15-20 hours per week. The goal of the Chamber of Commerce is to assist the intern through practical experience to become a professional; with the potential of securing a full-time position in a desired field.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be present in the Chamber office to greet guests and members

  • Prepare & coordinate promotional materials

  • Distribute information to Chamber members, businesses and stakeholders

  • Manage the office’s contact database software

  • Participate in day-to-day operations of the Chamber office

  • Complete errands to member business locations when requested

  • Assist with tasks and administration for board, committees and events as required

  • Create draft communication documents on behalf of the Chamber

  • Update and maintain the Chamber website and Social Media pages as required

  • Manage and compose monthly newsletter for Chamber members, compose press releases and other similar documents for new and existing Chamber members.

  • Participate in Chamber event coordination and execution

  • Promote a positive relationship with local businesses in the community

  • Stay aware of events relevant to the Highland County business community

Qualifications

  • Student aspiring to be enter the workforce as a professional with practical experience

  • Must work with minimal supervision, possess excellent oral and written communication skills and have a high degree of professionalism and organization.

  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in high stress situations

  • This position may require a schedule that is flexible enough to allow for meetings and events outside of normal business hours. Occasionally it will require extra hours to ensure successful events and projects. Understand the importance of flexibility pertaining to duties and willingness to take on new tasks with an ‘out of the box’ approach.

Software Experience Preferred:

Google Suite, Social Media Outlets, SquareSpace, ChamberMaster, Canva

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • High level of physical mobility/activity -- lifting of items of 25 lbs. or more. I.E.: cases of soda, coolers, decorations, event materials. Physical mobility required in set up and take down of events.

  • Reliable transportation required for attending luncheons, meetings, community activities throughout Giles County.

SALARY/COURSE CREDIT

This internship pays based on a tiered system as experience and readiness increases:

  • Tier 1 - High School Senior, College Freshman or Sophomore,

    10-15 Hours/Week, Not paid, 12-16 weeks

  • Tier 2 - College Junior or Senior, Post-Secondary Experience Builder,

    15-20 Hours/Week, $10/Hour, 16-20 weeks

  • Tier 3 - College Senior or Post-Secondary Experience Builder,

    15-30 Hours/Week, $12.50/Hour, 6 or 12 months

Positions are open to students 18 and older. Applicants do not have to associate the internship with credit hours. However, credit hours can be given if coordinated appropriately.
